Many of our volunteers are aware of our own Rusty Smith's recent involvement with an independent horror film, but for those of our fans who aren't aware...here are some trailers and articles regarding the making of the film. As you'll see below, Rusty is playing a number of parts in the film.

All Hallows Evil - Lord of the Harvest is set to be released October of this year and already there are two available teaser trailers!

Did any of you catch the season premier of The River on ABC Tuesday night?

It's a new paranormal/adventure/horror series created by Oren Peli and Michael R. Perry.

One of its executive producers is Steven Spielberg.

The show revolves around the disappearance of Dr. Emmet Cole

(a beloved scientist, explorer and host of a childrens show)

who was searching for magic in the uncharted Amazon.

No one knows the truth about his disappearance.

Now Dr. Cole's wife, son and several others are on the search for him.

To help fund their search they allow one of Dr. Cole's ex-producers to film their search documentary style.

The show will continue to air every Tuesday on ABC at 9:00pm.

Soylent Green

Soylent Green is a science fiction film released in 1973, starring Charlton Heston. It is set in the future (2022) and follows a police detective (Heston) in the investigation of a murdered businessman.

In 2022, the population suffers from overpopulation, pollution, depleted resources and poverty. Their oceans are dying causing hotter than normal climate - only the rich can afford hot water and air conditioning. The poorer population survives on processed food rations which include soylent green (a high-energy plankton). Because of the overpopulation, homeless fill the streets, alleys and stairways in buildings and many die due to starvation and sickness. The government is there to offer assisted suicide for those who no longer wish to live (whether well or ill).

Soylent Green is a huge hit with the masses, but supply is low causing riots. While the detective Thorn looks further into the murder of the wealthy businessman, his close friend discovers dark secrets about the truth behind the Soylent Companies.

***Soylent Green could be decently remade now and would probably be received as well as the first if not better. When you have nothing to do, check this film out (bare with it as some parts can be slow, but overall..it's unlike anything today.)

Released in April 2011, this review might be considered late by some. The critics have always had mostly negative things to say about the horror genre, but we should be free to form our own opinion on these things.

SCREAM 4 brought back a few of the original cast to reprise their famous roles (Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox), but also brought along with it a bunch of newcomers. One of which was the "lead" character played by Emma Roberts - some of you may or may not know, she's the niece of Julia Roberts, her father is actor Eric Roberts.

The film certainly kept you guessing...there were many parts one might say "Oh the killer is so-and-so", but not the case. The film finished with one of the most twisted endings...but we're not going to give it away here :)

In this day and time it seems Hollywood is more interested in re-makes and re-vamps than original movies and even though society believes series' are doomed, SCREAM was nicely done. If you haven't seen it, give it a shot, you may add it to your TOP 20 favorites and you may hate it. The decision is yours.

Dahlonega is getting some action!

Below are some upcoming horror/sci movies set for release in 2012. Sort of feels like Horror has dug it's little place back into the blockbuster world. Today's movies will never equal the quality and originality of horror movies in the 70s'/80's, but it is great to see what studio's can pull off with special effects. It is unfortunate to see, however, so many remakes of classic films being made. What happened to ORIGINAL ideas? Justin Eric Armstrong, 24, of Dahlonega, GA passed away Monday, November 28, 2011. Justin loved spending time with his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Captain Walker; grandparents, John E and Madeline Prince Armstrong; grandfather, Arthur E. "Tarzan" Housley.

He is survived by his parents, John Edward Armstrong of San Diego, CA and Judy Housley Armstrong of Dahlonega, GA; brother, Joseph Armstrong of Dahlonega, GA; grandmother, Faye Walker Housley of Dahlonega, GA; aunt, Geneva Walker Betzold of Dahlonega, GA; uncle, Chip Housley of Dahlonega, GA. and numerous cousins and other relatives.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Dahlonega Funeral Home, interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Every year when the haunted house has ended, we like to reward our most dedicated volunteers who were available every single night of operation (this year was 12 nights). There were a few who only missed 1 night.On Friday Nov 11th we all met up at Funtastik! Gainesville Bowling Alley.After chopping on some pizza, we split into groups of two and played some laser tag.

We will be having our 2011 Cast Party this Saturday at the haunted house.

Whether you volunteered one night or every night, we would love for you to join us. Admission to the cast party is a food item purchased or prepared. We will provide cups, ice and utensils, but we would like everyone to bring food for us to all dine on. We understand times are tough, but anything contributed is greatly appreciated (cookies, chips, soda...etc)

At the cast party you'll have a chance to catch up with one another and mingle. We will also be giving out the awards for our 3 night, 5 night prizes as well as the t-shirts (for those volunteers who worked 7 nights + Halloween).

Manager Appreciation Night

On Friday, November 4, 2011 we treated members of our management to a nice dinner in Buckhead to thank them for all of their hard work, time and dedication into making sure the haunted house ran properly.

We dined at Imperial Fez, a Morrocan style restaurant featuring a 5 course meal and belly dancing! Many of our staff had never experienced anything like this, so it was truly an experience.

We spread ourselves out among floor pillows and couches and enjoyed ourselves for a little over 2.5hrs. The food was delicious and the waitstaff was very courteous and helpful.

With the help of our amazing volunteers and loyal fans, we have officially completed our 11th year of haunting! It has been a strange season, with our dear "Fluffy" having passed away in August, we were unsure what direction the haunted house would go in. With help from the community and our handy volunteers, we were able to get Doomtown up and running in a matter of 1 month. We've had so many great reviews this season from new fans and annual fans. We had new customers coming in from Villa Rica, Ball Ground, Cumming, Atlanta...the list goes on. This truly was an exciting season for us and while we are happy to have a break, it's a bittersweet goodbye....until next year.

This weekend 10/21 & 10/22 was our best weekend yet! Thank you to every one who has visited this season, whether you got scared, laughed - your attendance helps raise money for our charity. We have 50+ live actors every night who put forth all of their talent and efforts to make this show happen. Our goal is to put on a great show for haunt-goers every year. By changing the theme and creating new and unique characters and scares, our customers never know what to expect. We hope that even if you weren't terrified during your visit that you did at least enjoy yourself.

Gold Rush 2011

A HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers for sticking through such a long Saturday. Our day started at 12:30pm and didn't end until 12:00am the next morning. For the parade we presented a New Orleans style memorial service for Lance "Fluffy" Oxyer. Some of our crew were dressed as a Dead Band and others were Walking Dead.

Our float was a memorial to Fluffy featuring a giant photo of Lance as his signature character and we had a coffin carrying his ashes. While he was not at the parade in body, he was definitely there with us in spirit. We miss you big guy!

Even with a music malfunction mid-way through the parade, we still hyped up the audience and made a lot of people smile. We got the usual snub from certain groups which is unfortunate, but we do not let that effect us.

As we have in the past, we will be participating in the Dahlonega Gold Rush parade this coming Saturday, October 15, 2011.

Our theme this year is special and we want to make it as authentic as possible. We are looking for band instruments (they do not have to be in working condition), horns, flutes, woodwinds, snare drums, cymbals...etc. If you would be willing to let us borrow your instrument(s) just for the use of the parade, please bring them by on Friday any time between 6-11pm (ask to see Amanda) and you can pick them up any time between 6-11pm on Saturday after the parade is over.

Thanks again for another successful weekend at Rot N. Rusty's. Our fans are amazing and without you, we wouldn't have a haunted house production for you to enjoy. We have already seen some repeat customers having only been open 4 nights!!

We will be open again this Friday 10/14 at dark (we're talking BLACK skies) and on Saturday 10/15.

Also, if you've been to Dahlonega for Gold Rush in the past, you should be aware there's always a parade. We participate each year with our hearse and very own collection of walking dead. We will be in it again this year, on Saturday October 15h and appropriately paying tribute to Lance "Fluffy" Oxyer -so it's a site you won't want to miss!

Rot N. Rusty's officially opened the doors last Friday 9/30. Although we opened late, the show went great (thank you to our volunteers and most importantly those of you who waited patiently in line). It was our best opening weekend to day - we had three customers wet their pants and a young boy pass out. So far the reviews have been positive and we're happy so many of you are enjoying it. We highly recommend attending again later in the season once all of the kinks have been ironed out. There are only 10 nights left of our haunted house, so please make a point to come out and see us!

Tickets are $12/per person, but there are $2 off coupons available at various locations in Hall, Dawson and Lumpkin counties. You can also print one off of our website (see the DIRECTIONS/INFO tab at the top). We open at dark every Friday & Saturday 10/7 - 10/29, with extra nights on Thur 10/27 and Mon 10/31, we stop selling tickets at 11pm, but if you are already in line, you will go through.

If you would like to volunteer, please show up at 5:30 to the haunted house (on one of these nights: 10/7, 10/8, 10/14, 10/15, 10/21, 10/22, 10/27, 10/28, 10/29 or 10/31) , find Amanda and sign up. You must be 16yrs of age or older, if you are under 18 you must bring a parent and/or guardian to sign a release waiver allowing you to volunteer - Your parent and/or guardian must be present to sign, if you do not get the release waiver signed, you will not be able to volunteer until it is.

THIS Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 6:00pm we are having rehearsal. We are only 8 days away from opening and need to finalize parts, lines and costumes. We encourage you to attend this meeting if at all possible! Without our actors there would be no haunt....and a haunt without actors would be pretty dull - don't cha think? So please come by, even if only for a few minutes. Introduce yourself (if you haven't already) and be sure you find Amanda so you can sign up to be a volunteer - if you're under the age of 18, please bring a parent/guardian so they can sign our waiver allowing you to volunteer. They do not have to stay for the entire meeting, but we do need them to sign off on this paper.

Our coupons are in and they look F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C! This weekend we will have some set up at the Spirit Halloween store in Buford and Cumming. If any of you have a business or know of a business that will allow us to hang a poster and/or set our our coupons, please let us know and we'll get the supplies to you! The only way we can continue to grow and draw a bigger fanbase is to get the word out!

We only have 11 days until we officially open for 2011! The last few weeks have been rough, but with the help of our loyal volunteers we are making this show happen.

Our posters and tickets are being printed, our coupons are on their way and we're having rehearsal this Saturday (if you would like to volunteer, please join us at rehearsal at 6pm - 312 Riley Rd, Dahlonega, GA 30533)

The theme this year is unlike any other and can't wait for you to see it. It's been hard keeping it a "secret", but in the end it will pay off.

On Tuesday September 13, 2011 we participated in Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition's annual adult spelling bee. This was our 3rd year being involved and it was probably our best one yet.

This year our team members were:

Wyleen - played by Beverly Scott

Darleen - played by Amanda Jones

Rayleen - played by Rusty Smith

When each team is called up to spell the first word, you have an opportunity to perform a short skit and introduce your team to the judges and the audience.

The rest of the night, both the judges and audience evaluate each team's performance.

Towards the end of the spelling bee, the judges gather "their" top 3 teams on stage

and then allow the audience to vote for their favorite,

(via cheering/clapping) of the three to win the "TAKE THE PIE" award.

This year ladies and gentlemen, we took it back!!

Thank you to The Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition for putting this program on and for allowing us to participate. It's truly a one of a kind experience each year. Also, THANK YOU to the judges for selecting us in the top 3 and of course to our fans in the audience who cheered for us so loudly that we won PIE!!

So we can't spell....but we sure know how to entertain!

Tonight 7pm at The Holly Theater in Dahlonega, GA is the Adult Spelling Bee hosted by the Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition. We have participated the last two years and it's been a lot of fun.

Hope you all had a good weekend. If you were not able to attend Ghoul Skool on Saturday, we missed you! We discussed the details of our plans for the haunt, brainstormed ideas and went over safety procedures as well as our expectations of you, our volunteer's.

For those of you who missed it, here's a recap:

Rot N. Rusty's Haunted House will officially open September 30th at dark and we'll remain open every Friday & Saturday through October 29th (we'll also be open Sunday 10/30 and Monday 10/31) for a total of 12 nights. The theme is under wraps to the public, but feel free to ask Rusty, Caren, myself or any other person(s) who attended Ghoul Skool and we can give you the details. If you did your homework a few weeks ago and watched the recommended movies, you may already have an idea of what we're going for.

We will begin construction soon, very soon, but first need to get our equipment out of our old haunt and moved to our new location. We will try to post HELP WANTED as often as possible VIA twitter @RotNRusty, our facebook page (www.facebook.com/rotnrustyproductions) as well as here on our website so you know exactly when someone will be on location and working. Even if you DO NOT want to act in the haunt, but have free time and wish to help with the set-up and construction, we welcome and appreciate the help. Our address is 312 Riley Rd - Dahlonega, GA 30533, we will be at the storage units right across from the new courthouse in downtown Dahlonega.

Tickets will be $12/per person, $2 off coupons will be available soon - if you know of a business that will allow us to put up our poster and/or supply coupons, please let us know and we will give you the necessary materials. By doing so, we expect you to keep a check on the coupons and refill them if/when necessary. We do not want every one hoarding these posters and coupons to put on their bedroom walls and other miscellaneous places that will not draw traffic to the haunted house. Remember we do this for charity and without customer's we will have no donation.

We completed our poster-shoot Sunday evening with Devil Cat Art & Photography, we know Don & Andrea Weir will make our poster as creepy and sinister as possible!

Again, it's THIS Saturday August 27th at 7pm - Yahoola Creek Park in Dahlonega, GA. If you're coming into Dahlonega via 60, go through downtown, turn right onto Mechanicsville Rd and follow it until you arrive at Yahoola Creek Park.

We will be discussing the theme for 2011, construction plans and character ideas. We will also be accompanied by the Lumpkin County Fire Department to do our yearly fire safety training. If you have volunteered with us before, but have never participated in Ghoul Skool, we encourage you to attend this meeting if at all possible. It's important that each and every one of you is familiar with fire safety and it is vital to know while our haunt is open so we follow all appropriate steps in making sure our staff and customer's are safe.

Spelling Bee!

Rot N. Rusty's will once again participate in the Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition's Annual Spelling Bee.

We won the "Take the Cake" award in 2009 as the O-BEE-tuaries.

We took turns reading our own epitaphs during our skit. Erin as Ugly Claire died of eatin' watermelon. Amanda as Betty Sue Blake who hit the gas insead of the break and Beverly who told everyone she was sick, but nobody listened.

We did NOT win the cake in 2010, but were told by many of the audience members and other teams that we should have. We came promoting Zom-BEE-Gone, a new spray that would help rid your life of zombie's, or just control them. Beverly as the rich lush housewife who couldn't bare to kill off the zombie she found outside in her garden. Amanda as the...zombie and Erin played the scientist who created this amazing product, which by the way is only $99.99!!!

Today was Lance's memorial, it was bittersweet. It was heartwarming to see how many lives he touched, if only we all had the chance to tell him how much he meant to us before he passed. One thing the pastor officiating the service said that probably touched every one was :

"Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow. Make sure you tell friends and loved ones that you love them every single day, for you never know when their time may come."

We all came together, remembering fun times with Lance and his outgoing personality. Special words spoken by Lance's best friend, Rusty Smith as well as Caren "Crazymom" Denning and Michael "Pikey" Thompson. There was a beautiful collage of photo's of Lance with friends and of friends, but the best part of his entire service was seeing his "Fluffy" costume on display.

It hit home for every one today that our dear friend was really gone. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Afterward, Lance's mother, Norma treated us all to dinner at Ryan's. Even though it was heartbreaking under the circumstances for us all to be together, it was nice to join in fellowship to honor someone we were all connected to.

Lance Oxyer of Dawsonville, GA passed away at the young age of 46, August, 2, 2011 to a sudden illness. He is survived by his mother, Norma Oxyer.

Known to many of our customer's as the character "Fluffy". He was a kind hearted man with a passion for the haunt world and all things Halloween. He will be forever missed, but certainly never forgotten. He became a trademark character at our haunted house and a vital part of Rot N. Rusty Production's.

It's hard to come to terms knowing he's actually gone and that we'll never see his face again, for now.

Rest in Peace dear friend, you will always be a part of our Legion.
